Performance:

The engine feels gutsy and strong, yet manages a consumption of 11 litres per 100 kilometres. However, this does not make the Mazda feel like a tank, as it provides nimble handling despite its substantial weight of 1939 kilograms. The steering feels direct and sporty, which helps less confident drivers manage the substantial length of the vehicle. This in combination with the reverse sensors makes parking this 5.1 metre long beast a breeze.
The engine is paired with an automatic six speed transmission, which makes shifting quick and responsive. Although there is some degree of road noise, the ride feels firm and comfortable. A Brief Guide to the Mazda 3 SP25

The Mazda 3 has been a popular model for the Japanese car brand, but with the Ford Focus and offerings from other car manufacturers vying for the top sales slot, Mazda are pulling out all the stops with their latest upgrade. The SP25 pack is designed to address a number of refinements to improve the overall performance and passenger enjoyment of the vehicle.

Unlike many models where cost cutting is immediately apparent, the Mazda manages a great finish. The internal plastics feel high quality and the controls feel smooth and tactile. Even smaller elements such as the glove box open smoothly with a nice action. There is a great attention to detail applied externally, with the paint finish looking excellent. The fit of the body panels is precise and even the door jambs show a glossy finish and clean welds.

Gadgets:
Mazda have developed a great reputation for providing a high level of technology and gadgets on their models and the Mazda 3 SP25 is no exception. The model features a seven inch centrally mounted touchscreen, which allows complete control of all of the onboard infotainment. The technology is both intelligent and intuitive, providing a great user friendly interface. Pricing Announced for the 25th Anniversary Mazda MX5

Mazda are anticipating a wild consumer rush as the new anniversary edition Mazda MX5 goes on sale. The company has announced pricing for the limited edition model, which is limited to just 1,000 units. Although the Australian market is only allocated forty units, popularity has immediately been apparent, with over a third of the allocation being reserved before the pricing had even been announced.

The limited edition has been specially designed to commemorate the twenty fifth anniversary of this iconic Mazda model. The model was revealed at the Auto Show in New York earlier in the year. It showed immediate sales excitement, with the Japanese and American allocation of vehicles selling out in only minutes.

The Australian allocation consists of twenty four manual transmission vehicles with a six speed gear box. This model is priced $48,380, while the remaining models will sell for $49,990 and feature an automatic six speed transmission. The model is available in the new Soul Red colour of metallic paint. The design features the iconic red with striking black highlights on side mirrors, roof and A pillars. Is There an Aussie Tax on New Cars?

Buying a new car can be a costly event. However, buyers in Australia are increasingly frustrated by what appears to be an Aussie tax imposed on the Australian automotive market. Popular models such as the Mazda 3 and Ford Focus appear to be far more costly compared to other areas of the world such as the UK.

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries or FCAI has taken these claims seriously and recently conducted a research study to determine if consumers had a reasonable argument for the existence of the Aussie Tax. The FCAI engaged IHS Automotive to research the pricing of a number of new cars in the Australian market and their equivalent models in the United Kingdom.

In a recent press conference, the FCAI announced the results of the research, which has determined that the Australian prices are in fact favourable compared to the UK market. This is good news for the constituent members of the FCAI, which includes car companies which build or import cars for the Australian market. The study has highlighted that the Australian market is highly competitive and has sixty seven brands competing for a greater market share across over three hundred and fifty models.

IHS Automotive conducted the research by comparing the pricing and specification of imported vehicles which are sold in Australia and the two other right hand drive market places. Using this research the FCAI further analysed the market, comparing models which were “like for like” with the same specification.  This showed that in the vast majority of cases, the Australian models were cheaper compared to the same specification model in New Zealand or the United Kingdom.

The analysis compared the standard specification of models and the basic price before on the road costs were imposed within each market. In order to achieve consistency, the IHS UK figures were based on a conversion to the Australian dollar with an exchange rate of £0.55. This is the average of the exchange rate seen during the first six months of 2014.

Although some of the models were more expensive for the Australian market, in many cases, there was very little difference in price. However, the Australian price could see a marked inflation due to the imposition of Luxury Car Tax, which is applied to vehicles priced over $61,884.

This research has highlighted that the Australian market does offer consumers great deals. For example the Mazda 3 Neo, is available in Australia for $23,792, while it is offered in the UK for $31,405. Other notable examples include the Ford Focus Trend which is $32,325 in the UK while being $22,290 in Australia and the Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport, which is almost identically priced on sale in Australia for $23,540 and the UK for $24,250.
